Constructive Criticism can be one of the hardest things to give when you are commenting on a doll. While you want to be nice and not hurt the maker’s feelings, you always don’t want to candy-coat your comments and leave out the things that could use improvement. Sometimes it can be very hard to find a balance between giving encouragement and giving critiques.
It's one of the most important things of a dolling site: The layout. The visitors see it first, remember it, like it - or not. If they don't, the most of them don't stay. A bad layout can make a whole site bad, even if the dolls are great. But what is a "good" layout? This is what I'm going to figure out.
Are you creating your first dolling website, or do you want to improve your current one? There are so many dolling websites out there, it can be difficult to make yours be unique and stand out from the rest. So, what makes a dolling website great and fun to visit? I asked some of my favorite website owners this question:
Whichever forum you go to, you will find a current craze. Be it purple, portraits or pirates: we're all going craze mad!
So what inspires these fads? It could be movies, fashion or something totally random; but it starts with someone somewhere. Do you think you have a craze in the making that you want to put into action? Do you want to see more dolls wearing what you started off?
I'm quite sure that all of you have had these days, when you have absolutely no inspiration. You just keep looking at your computer's screen, but even after an hour, you still haven't got a good idea of what to doll. So what do you do? Start another casual doll or find inspiration? But where do get inspiration?
To help you with finding inspiration, I've asked few dollers, where do they get their inspiration. Hopefully you'll find your inspiration soon :)
In the world of dolling, there are many diffrent styles, it seems like the people who are friends in the dolling world have the same style. Therefore we get these "style-clicks".
How many obscure contests do we see floating around the site advertisement forums today? Many of them have 3 or 5 entries, and several of those who might have been once interested are “too busy” to finish (sometimes because they're making entries for other contests). So many site-owners, especially those who have recently started a dollsite, want to host contests, but many times they are a disappointment to the hostess (and unfortunately, also to those who are looking for a good contest to enter!). How should you host a contest in a way that helps people flock to it? How do you get those people who said they'd enter stand and deliver an entry? How many times is it appropriate to bump your announcement thread when you receive no replies? In this article, I hope to help you answer these questions and more.
I’ve asked five fellow dollers what program they use, and why they use it. So, which is best and why? Today, I investigate the ups and downs of both...
Don't you just hate that first introductory post in a forum? Then you have to wander around the forum trying to make a name for yourself. Everybody knows one another, calling eachother their nicknames and your left wondering 'who the hell are they talking about?' Its enough to just give in and go back to your home forum you are used to. Well not anymore! Here are some tips to get you past the newbie stage before you can say 'hi im new'!
Once upon a time, we were all new to dolling. We all got into it in our own different ways but we all have one thing in common now- dolls and pixel art. Today, I have one question to ask: how did we start off? I’ve asked five people this very question...
Many new dollers come into dolling forums, and they’re constantly being immersed in typical dolling language: it’s all too easy to get caught up in confusion by words thrown about like “muses”, “C+C”, “GIF-monster”, “frankendolling” or “tool/pixel shading”. Today, I define these terms.
Once upon a time, the word 'sisters' in the dolling community meant that those sites, those webmistresses shared a strong friendship. People only had a couple of sisters and it was very rare. Nowadays sisters are ten a penny and you can pick one up at your local forum. So has the longtime dolling tradition become meaningless?
Dear Readers, Over the last month, Pixel Post has been going steady with a good amount of articles and interviews, as well as ever-flowing-in-news. I'm am pleased to say that I believe Pixel Post is becoming just as popular as it was in 'the old days'. Though things are simpler now, without the quizzes and such, I think it really has brought this online newspaper back to the core: a place to find out the latest, to read about the famous and hidden talent and to learn tips about the world of dolling.
There is currently a little problem with spam in our mail box. Today I found an insane amount of spam emails (something like 120) and there was more in the junk mail folder from bots. Understandably all mail was deleted, so this means if you have emailed Pixel Post in the last few weeks, your email may not have been read so please re-send in applications etc. Thank you!
